The Akron/Canton emergent cohort will meet on Friday, April 11th, but at a new location. Rather than meeting at Bennigan’s of Belden Village in Canton, we are going to meet at Mariachi Locos, which is located at 3430 S. Arlington Rd. in Akron (Green, actually). This is situated between Akron and Canton so it should be more fair to everyone as far as distance is concerned. Hopefully it won’t be too busy, but it never has been whenever I’ve been there.
The topic is going to be a practical one: how should we think about and deal with anger? Rather than post a list of biblical passages on the subject like I did last month, I’ll just ask each of you to come ready to discuss what you have learned from: 1) the Christian canon, 2) your Christian tradition, including particular churches that you’ve been a part of and maybe even your family, 3) any other tradition or field of knowledge, and 4) your own experience. What are the healthiest ways to think about and experience anger? Which ways call us toward responsible action without truncating the human experience or even denying to us our own humanity? Which ways are sustainable over the long term? Can abstractions be made or parallels be drawn that would be applicable to other human emotions?
Come ready to discuss and have a good time! I hope to see you there!
