January 2009 Cohort Meeting

January 7, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Hello everyone,

Our January cohort meeting is scheduled for next Friday, January 16th, 2009, at 7pm at Pancho’s Southwestern Grille, which is located at 4325 Massillon Road (SR241) Green, Ohio 44232. I know several folks have said they can’t make it, but I’m hoping everyone else will be able to be there. We agreed in December to try meeting on the third Friday of the month rather than the second because Bob had a conflict every second Friday and no one else objected to the change. Not many folks came in December, though I suspect this may have had more to do with it being the holidays and all. Still, please let me know if this schedule doesn’t work for anyone, or if there are any suggestions for topics, venue, timing, etc. I think Pancho’s will work well because the restaurant is divided by walls into smaller spaces that are conducive for group conversations, etc. Time will tell, I guess.

As for next Friday’s topic, there are a couple of conversations going on over at the Emergent site that are of some interest, at least to me, that I thought might provoke some interesting discussion for us. One has to do with “redefining ‘Church’ and ‘church’.” You can find that thread here. There was another great post on the Emergent blog asking the question “Where does the Emergent road lead?” The author of the post is “emerging” not from fundamentalism or evangelicalism but from “trying to follow God without Jesus.” Anyway, she poses a great challenge to those of us who grew up in the church (however you define it), which I also think it would be worth our while to discuss. That thread can be found here

Sound good?
